Yesterday morning we were fallen in about 1.30a.m., and marched off to the beach, and embarked for here. I don’t know how long we are here for, but I can tell you it is a great relief to be able to get away from the sound of shot and shell. The last couple of days we had been getting quite a number of shells over our way, and we had lost a few men.

Imbros is very much like Lemnos, only smaller. It was about time we were given this rest. The continual danger was getting on the men’s nerves, all were getting completely rattled and jumpy. Have laid in a big stock of envelopes now. There are quite a number of small booths run by the Greeks – they don’t forget to charge for things either.

We are revelling in fresh eggs, fruit and vegetables. Also we get a lot of swimming.

There are a fair number of Turkish prisoners working here. They are quite happy and contented. I rather fancy they get a much better time as prisoners, than soldiers.
